Birmingham, AL Attorneys Specializing in Workers' Compensation Claims

A work injury can cause major interruptions to not only your life but also your finances and navigating the workers’ compensation process can be confusing and frustrating.

Alabama workers’ compensation law requires all employers that regularly employ five or more employees to have worker’s compensation insurance. It is generally the exclusive remedy for on-the-job injury and occupational disease. The employee is guaranteed a “benefit certain” in the event of an on-the-job injury or occupational disease. The employer pays for this insurance. The employer is protected by the “exclusive remedy” provisions of the law.

Alabama worker’s compensation law provides two basic benefits after a workplace accident: payment of work-related medical bills and payment of two-thirds of an employee’s average weekly wage during the time they are unable to work.

In the event you are unable to return to work, or you return to work with a permanent physical limitation, Alabama law also provides for a lump sum settlement based upon either your medical impairment rating or your vocational limitations.
